Cycling & Podiatry
Whilst cycling is an excellent low impact exercise (and plenty of fun),
many cyclists experience overuse injuries or hot spots in their cycling shoes.
Common reasons a cyclist may seek an assessment with a podiatrist:
Pain or burning in the ball of the foot
Numbness or tingling in the feet or toes
Pain in your back, hips or knees
Wanting to achieve the best power output with each pedal stroke
Injury prevention
A few of the aspects we are likely to cover during the biomechanical appointment:
Assessment of cycling shoes and fit
Cleat position and angle (related to the findings of the biomechanical assessment)
Assessment of day-to-day footwear and foot posture
Check of any leg or foot length discrepancy
Discussion of bike setup
Discussion of the weekly mileage and frequency you’re cycling, as well as any competitive goals you may have
Discussion of any need for cycling orthoses related to your foot position, any symptoms, and your goals
Any need for stretching and strengthening exercises
Any differences in mountain biking vs road biking footwear and setup
