Achilles Tendon injuries
The Achilles tendon is the large tendon located at the back of the leg that connects the calf muscle to the heel. This tendon is responsible for carrying an enormous load as it gives us the ability to toe off during walking, running and jumping activities.
Achilles tendon pain is usually caused by a slow onset, overuse injury. Repeated strain causes tiny tears to form, and the tendon becomes weakened and degenerative which causes pain and inflammation. Other injuries to the Achilles may result from sudden acute tear or rupture of the tendon.
There may be more to your Achilles Tendon Pain…
In some cases of Achilles or posterior heel pain, the Achilles tendon may not be the only structure that is causing your pain. There are numerous issues that may contribute to symptoms of inflammation or pain that region. Spurs, Bursitis or referred pain from a bursa may be the real culprit.
All of which, can be identified and treated by our experienced podiatrists. Our Podiatrists are able to refer for medical imaging to look at the whole structure to make an informed decision as to the most appropriate treatment plan.
